ASTM Additive Manufacturing File Format (AMF)
This wiki contains information and resources regarding the new AMF File format. AMF is an official ASTM standard that describes a framework for a data interchange to address the current and future needs of additive manufacturing technology. AMF is an XML-based format designed to allow any design software to describe the shape and composition of any object to be fabricated on any 3D-printer. This format has been developed by ASTM Committee F42 on Additive Manufacturing Technologies, specifically the Task Group on File Formats.

- Avante Technology, in collaboration with Mind in a Box, Inc. announces release of AMF v1.2 reference software and establishment of open source licensing project on GitHub to sponsor and support the AMF format and the ISO/TC 261 ASMT F42 Joint Group 64 activities. April 2024.
- Mind in a box Inc, in collaboration with Avante Technology, publishes the website amftools.org to sponsor the AMF format and the ISO/TC 261 ASMT F42 Joint Group 64 activities. It includes user forums and intends to help disseminating AMF files and reference surface. September 2023
- Avante Technology LLC releases first commercial AMF file converter and AMF mesh repair software. February 2023.
- slic3r.org publishes Slic3r slicing software support for v1.2 of ISO/ASTM 52915:20, including materials meta data. Released 2021(as of 2024, four slicing applications support AMF).
- Version 1.2 of ISO/ASTM 52915 standard (AMF specification) published May 2020.
- FDA publishes technical guidance document on the use of additive manufacturing to make medical devices. AMF is offered as example of the type of advanced 3D format medical device manufacturers should be using. Published December 2017

- ISO TC261 Technical Committee on Additive Manufacturing is formed under joint agreement with ASTM F42 Additive Manufacturing Committee in 2011. Technical Working Group J64 File Formats established.
